Homelessness Prevention Program (HPP) (1998)

The Homeless Prevention Program knits together 265 south and southwest suburban Faith Communities, community organizations, municipalities and concerned citizens from throughout the area, into a homelessness prevention early warning system. By mobilizing hundreds of people who are in a position to identify crisis situations which may escalate into homelessness, PADS staff members and volunteers can intervene to help a family avoid loosing their residence and thus help them avoid the need for emergency shelter.

Through early intervention, our volunteers will be able to help family’s budget, forecast and plan their way through a crisis. When required, PADS can financially assist a family with rent or mortgage assistance, utility assistance or other short-term creative solutions that can resolve a family’s crisis. Following the resolution of the crisis, Homeless Prevention Program volunteers serve as mentors to the family for up to 12 months.
