HOMELESS HEALTHCARE NETWORK (HHN) (1995)

The Homeless Healthcare Network is a unique collaboration between South Suburban PADS, the major south suburban hospitals and medical centers, area colleges and universities and volunteer medical professionals which provides free primary care medical services to people who are homeless.

By providing South Suburban PADS guests with direct access to many medical services, through clinic sites within shelter locations and program centers, the HHN seeks to address a variety of medical issues at the earliest point in time possible. Over the HHN’s seven-year history, this early intervention approach has helped PADS guests to reduce the number illnesses they experience, shorten their recovery time and reduce the number of non-funded emergency room visits.

Since few of South Suburban PADS guests are covered by public or private medical insurance, the medical needs of the homeless would be disregarded, until an emergency occurs, without the services of the HHN. All HHN medical services are provided free of charge under the State of Illinois’ Good Samaritan Act.
